An outstanding singer, Ninel Tkachenko has been entertaining her listeners. She shot to stardom virtually overnight with national newspapers, music authorities and connoisseurs praising her stellar performance at the second Glinka national competition of vocalists in Moscow in 1962. Ninel Tkachenko impressed the audience with her larger than-life talent and absolutely unique dramatic soprano.
Ninel was born hi Kharkov where she finished the local Beethoven music school, a music college and the Kharkov Conservatory. During her college graduation performance she offered a brilliant rendition of the lead part in Giacomo Puccini's Madama Butterfy opera and raised eyebrows singing Tatyana's part in Tchaikovsky's Evgeny Onegin at the city's Opera Theatre when she was graduating from the Conservatory.
Ninel Tkachenko spent 22 years as an opera singer in Minsk, Odessa and Kiev where she appeared in 25 dramatic soprano parts including eight in operas by Giuseppe Verdi which have earned her a well deserved reputation of a "Verdi singer".
Ninel Tkachenko made her debut performance at the Bolshoi Theatre in 1964 singing Aida's part at the invitation of the great conductor Melik-Poshayev. She also sang the parts of Toska in Puccini's eponymous opera, of Liza in Tchaikovsky's The Queen of Spades, of Yaroslavna in Borodin's Prince Igor and of Aida working with conductor Dimitriadi, Khaikin, Melik-Poshayev and Ermler. Her radio recordings are one of the most treasured in this country.
Ninel Tkachenko is the only Russian singer to handle the extremly difficult part of Abigail in Verdi's opera "Nabucco". During the 1960s and 1970s she was regarded as one of the best sopranos in Europe boasting an exceptionally wide range, a beautiful timbre and a regal appearance.
In 1964 Ninel Tkachenko became a People Artist of the Soviet Union and has a number of goverment awards.
Ninel Tkachenko is presently with the Moscow State Philarmony, is in excellent form and continues to perform and continues perform.
